Lives in the Balance: A COVID-19 Summit
CORE Group and the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH) are co-hosting Lives in the Balance: A COVID-19 Summit on the Health and Well-Being of Women, Children, and Adolescents July 1-2, 2020.
The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare the lack of equity and fairness in our societies. Health systems, as well as social and political structures in many countries are under tremendous strain, unable to protect those most vulnerable and at risk from the virus and its secondary effects. As past pandemics have shown too often, women, children, adolescents, and the most vulnerable – are often excluded from decision making processes or program implementation, while bearing the brunt of the impact.
The summit aims to:
To pause and REFLECT by looking at the bigger picture and examine the past months and previous epidemics for an opportunity for introspection, to be better prepared, on different levels and areas, for the healthy recovery that the world needs.
To SHARE best practices based on successful approaches to the COVID-19 response from a variety of stakeholders, including how agencies and organizations have adapted in real-time to shift activities to include a response to the pandemic while maintaining quality programming and communications.
COLLABORATE and ACT by promoting meaningful engagement between stakeholders at all levels including private sector, governments, frontline health workers, youth, and more to strengthen community engagement, build partnerships, and support technical capacity to work together to advance the health and well-being of Women, Children, and Adolescents.
